Playtime

It was such a beautiful day that we had to have some photographs of the sun on our playground kit. The sun was shining through these colourful ball throwers and it made their colours look so bright.

Bug Club

We made some fabulous planters today. Empty cans and primulas. Lovely! Well done everyone.

We needed a rest - it is hard work!

A little bit of a problem - the primulas were bigger than the tins!
We were so cold - but still enjoyed ourselves. The seat looks fantastic now with all the planters around it.

Don't they look lovely ? We were very proud of them.

 In place around the seat.

The team and their handiwork. Can you see the pots hanging on the seat?
Now we have to keep them alive!
Luckily we remembered to put holes in the bottom of the tins.
They should drain easily.
Let's hope they grow and keep flowering for a while.

Who influences our lives?

In RE today we were looking at who influences us in our lives. Some of the class brought in photographs to add to their work.
Here are some photographs of us being very busy!

The Sockclops sale

There were so many Sockclops this morning, all waiting for the Sockclops sale. Each Sockclops was 80p and the boys had made posters to advertise the event and had also reminded each class.
Well, by the end of the sale - there were none left at all! In fact, there is a waiting list of children wanting to buy a Sockclops!
We are very proud of these two - what a lot of work they have done! Even more impressive is that fact that all the money they make is going to our Enterprise fund.
Mr Coles was lucky - he almost missed out. We knew he wanted a Sockclops so it was a good thing that the boys went to see him with this one.

A huge pat on the back - what an effort! More Sockclops are being made as we speak!

Microbe Poetry by Year 6

Click here to listen to our Voicethread so far!

http://voicethread.com/share/1678303/

Our microbe Voicethread

In its very early stages at the moment. Only one poem to listen to - but you will get your money's worth as it is repeated. First time through is a little too quiet. Second time the volume is much better. Enjoy!

Prime numbers and Prime factors

Do you know what a Prime number is? We do! Do you know what a prime factor is? We do!
Tomorrow we are problem solving with prime numbers!

Animation Club

Wow, everyone is making such fantastic models. The problem is - no one thought to take photographs for the blog! Never mind - next week!

Our Fun Topic Lesson

In topic today we made a landfill pizza. It was to show what goes into the landfill site and we could recycle them instead. It was great fun and we got really messy. I enjoyed the part when th glue was stuck to my fingers and I could peel it off! It was a great day at school and I really enjoyed it!

                                                                                  The Bacteria
The bacteria is so very small,
But you can not doubt he is so cool.
He lives in your throat,
And helps you when you need a coat.
He squiggles all around,
But you won't mind because your safe and sound.
Scientists ought to know,
That he puts on a real show!
The bacteria can live everywhere,
Like in your hair or even in the air.
He moves so fast,
He and his friends have a blast.
He likes to have fun,
But he always have to ask his mum.
He like to act like cupid,
But certainly isn't stupid!
BY ALEX SMART!
                                                            The Microbe
The microbe is so very evil,
He likes to make you cough and snivel.
His fangs are like two thorns on a rose,
And he likes to crawl up your nose.
People mistake him for a hedgehog,
His prize is for your nose to clog.
Hurry up and don't be late,
For the great microbes about to escape.
Into the air they fly and float,
Into mouths and down the throat.
As you know he feeds on toffee,
But he absolutely hates coffee.
Doctors hate to see his face,
They don't like to see him around the place.
People want to catch him and lock him away,
But he wants to hunt for his next pray.

How far do germs spread?

Our Science experiment on Monday!

The investigation involved 'sneezing' and measuring over how large an area the sneeze had spread. This required spray bottles with coloured water, and working outdoors! We were a bit worried about the mess we might make in the classroom!

Bugs - well our ideas about bugs!

Just a few of our 'bugs'. We made these in our art lesson and soon you will be able to listen to the poems that we wrote too. They will be in Voicethread!

VCOP

Recently we have started the BIG WRITE!!! It is a thing we do every Friday after break. We have special pens, pencils and books for the big write. We also have cool candles, decorative twigs and music playing to help us conentrate! Emily Phillips xxx

Quad Blogging

Have you heard of Quad blogging? No I hadn't either - until recently. It means that 4 schools blog and look at each others' work too. That means that each blog has a lot more visitors to their site.

If we want to be involved it means that we would have to make more effort with our blog - not just one Guided reading group each week. Of course we need to continue to add to the Russian blog too! There would be 3 other schools reading our blog, and we would be reading and commenting on theirs.

What do you think about quad blogging? Do you want to be involved? Add a comment below if you like!

Composters

No, these don't look like composters yet - but they will! If you haven't brought a bottle into school then you won't be able to make your composter!

Sophie in year 3.

Oh dear, the video we wanted to post is sideways - how did that happen? This is a different video of Sophie and the class.

Sophie visited Year 3.

This wasn't in our classroom but it is so entertaining that we have added it to our blog. Sophie is Mr Coles' daughter and she is in the Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra. She came into school today to work with the Year 3 children.

The children really enjoyed having Sophie working with them. I think Sophie enjoyed herself too.

Miss Ford visited from Brockworth!

For our Keen to be Green topic we have been thinking about recycling and reusing materials.
We had a visit from Miss Ford who is going to help us to make some clothes for a Fashion Show. This is our Enterprise activity. Once the clothes are designed and made we will be able to sell tickets to the fashion show and then we will donate any money made, to a charity. We were thinking about making a donation to a charity helping the victims of recent floods.

We all need to look for old clothes that we don't need anymore - but as Miss Ford said - we have to ask for permission at home before we bring something into school.

Spellings!

We look for spelling mistakes in our work and write these 'problem' words in a list. Today we tested each other on these words. You can tell how hard we were concentrating!

The Big Write

Tomorrow we do our first Big Write - how exciting! It is all about making sandwiches. Tonight we have to talk to our families about our favourite sandwich so hat we can write about it tomorrow.

VCOP - what does it mean?

Vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation! We are using VCOP as part of the Big Write and lots of messages have been sent home about this.

Each classroom will soon have a VCOP display and, at the end of each week, all the children will have a time to write. It seems very popular at the moment. This week was the first week of Talk homework- hopefully children will be able to chat with their parents to answer a question posed by Mr Coles. This week, Mr Coles asked what the children would choose if they could have just one wish!

One group said that these Wow words are examples of fabulous words that we can include in our work, to improve our standards!

Concentrating in class!

Do they look as if they were concentrating? I don't think so!

Poetry about microbes

We started our Poetry work this morning.

Sockclops!

Sockclops is a creature with only one eye. Do you know what he is made of? There may be a clue in his name!
We will have some Sockclops for sale soon. They are very cute!

Our Science lesson

We designed an experiment to find out if yeast was a living thing.
Do you know which gas is in the balloons?

Matt's work

Wow isn't this fantastic. Matt has worked his magic again and this is the result.
What do you think? Leave us a comment please!

Our new topic

We are starting our new topic and Matt is coming in tomorrow to help us to design the wall displays. His painting of St Paul's Cathedral, last term, was fantastic!

Mrs Penman has been putting up displays - all about water and recycling.
Here are a couple of photographs.

8 o'clock this morning!

Some teachers are at school, some teachers are on their way to school, some teachers are at the top of a hill near to school, taking photographs - but perhaps it was worth it.

Sunrise today!

Yes there was a rainbow! It was beautiful!

The photographs were taken on Haresfield Beacon - did you recognise it?

Our Christmas calendar cross stitch!

This is work of the week - it is a fantastic cross stitch calendar, designed and stitched by Alex. Sometimes, with cross stitch, it is difficult to see what the design should be - not in this one! Alex has made a lovely robin, and he looks quite content!

Well done Alex!

New Term

Here we are back to school, and 2 days have already passed. What have we done?

We have learned about Bacteria and viruses and the diseases that they can cause. Can you help us with our calculation?

(thank you to Salmonellablog for this photograph)

If 1 bacteria divides into 2 bacteria every 20 minutes, how many will there be after 24 hours if we started with 1?

We tried this in class - it is not as easy as it sounds!

If you can't work this one out - can you find out the sizes of bacteria and viruses?

Today is the day!

Today we start using our blog in a more organised and regular way. At the moment it is there but needs to be edited. So, here's the deal. We work on our blog, make it interesting, make it exciting and other people will want to have a look at it - even read it, perhaps even comment on what we have written.

You can add some comments at home - but don't forget that we need to add to our blog with our Russian friends. Two blogs to work on - what a challenge!

Good luck and have fun!
